If you are considering getting pierced, we recommend that you avoid making the common mistake of thinking that it’s a simple and straightforward process and that you could do it yourself. A piercing, however small it may be, directly affects our body, and it’s important to take safety and sanitary measures to avoid subsequent complications.

Although rites of perforation have been performedfor centuries in many world cultures, in recent years the piercing fashion has immensely spread in western countries, to the point of becoming an aesthetic element of frequent use

At The Inker, we suggest that you follow these five pieces of advice to get your piercing safely:

  1. Choose a specialized studio, that relies on experienced professionals in this type of interventions, and that provides the necessary materials and sanitary measures. The studio where the piercing will be carried out should have its own sterilizer for all the tools used. The materials, such as needles, latex gloves, masks, etc. should be disposable.
  2. Go to a studio that is legally established, as the majority of Autonomous Regions of Spain (“ComunidadesAutónomas”) are obligated to obey strict health regulations to carry out this activity, and they are subject to recurring inspections.
  3. Choose a quality piece of jewellery that is manufactured with hypo allergic materials; even though gold, platinum or high quality surgical steel are, only the latter two are allowed by law to be used, being titanium the recommended material. We recommend that you don’t try to economize; cheaper materials such as common steel, silver or plastic, frequently cause infections or allergies. Be sure also that the jewellery piece is finished well, without cracks or irregular surfacesasbacteria could be accumulated, which couldat a later datecause an infection.
  4. Carefully decide the area where to place the jewellery piece, or ask professionals for advice. Choose ahealthy skin area, with no blistering/rashes, burns or skin disease symptoms. Mucous areas, such as genitals, mouth, nose, tongue, etc., are the most sensitive to infections so you must take greater care.
  5. Look after and keep an eye on your piercing in the following months. Follow the professional’s after care advice and monitor the piercing’s progression. At the first sign of redness, itchiness or swelling, it’s advisable to resort to your piercer so that he/she can revise the scarring process.

If you follow these pieces of advice, we’re sure that your piercing will be a positive experience to remember!

At The Inker Studio we pierce only with top quality materials, and as a specialized studio, we have the highest sanitary measures and the best professionals so that you can enjoy your piercing.
